For Once, Hassan Ali May Be Right
The recent JAIS raid on Damansara Utama Methodist Church reveals one thing, that people who are KL Centric do not know what they are talking about and some politicians loves to comment without thinking, which is immediately lapped up by their equally stupid hardcore supporters and spread wide through the web and twitter.
No correction are made when they are proven wrong. That's the strategy all along, hit the headlines first with full impact so that their supporters and public takes notice but when clarifications (when they are proven wrong) comes later, they are likely to be in back pages in small columns.
One of first to react to the raid was Tian Chua, who says although Jais is under Selangor State Government, they take instructions from Putrajaya. He says this without any shred of evidence and presumeably without checking with his counterparts in Selangor.
Many other Pakatan Leaders including Khalid Samad reacted angrily, mainly to show that they respect other religions and more importantly, they want their hard won Christian (read non-malay) votes to stay with them. They did this without checking with their own Pakatan colleague in charge of Jais, Hassan Ali. I wonder how would they react when something like this happens when they are in power at federal level. You will have Pakatan Ministers giving their immediate reactions without checking with necessary ministry, confusing the rakyat.
MCA President also caught the (Tian) 'Chua' disease by demanding DAP to answer for the raid, mocking the silence of DAP leaders. Here, what really happened does not matter to Chua Soi Lek as to him, what is at stake are just Chinese votes. How stupid.
Attempts to Proselytise Muslims.
While it has been quite well known that any attempts to proselytise/convert muslims are illegal in Malaysia, I will not be surprised that such activities has been going on for a very long time.
If you look at Hassan Ali's comments on the so-called raid, it may be vaque and demands further clarifications. But if this report from Malaysian Insider is true, then Hassan Ali/Jais maybe right.
“It is not a Christian prayer ... it is more like thanking God almighty,” he told The Malaysian Insider today.
He confirmed that two Malay-language thanksgiving songs were also sung at the dinner — “Allahu Akbar” and “Alhamdullilah” — but similarly denied they were religious in nature.
Annou also brushed off claims by Malay dailies and blogs that the quiz on Islam conducted at the dinner was meant to disparage the religion as the questions were “very general” in nature and “not insulting”.
“It was not to convert anyone, it was not to influence anybody ... They thought this is Ramadan month, they thought let’s have a quiz on Islam,” he said.
If the NGO is all about Helping the poor and HIV patients, why would anyone need to include religious songs especially “Allahu Akbar” and “Alhamdullilah” when the crowd is racially mixed?
If they really want to thank god, they could have asked everyone present to thank their respective god, maybe in silence. Why cant they do this?
Introducing questionaire on Islam just because it is Ramadhan is laughable. Why not have a quiz on HIV so that everyone present can be more well versed on the disease?
The above events, if they really took place ( I have seen the copy agenda of the event in other sites), raises many questions on the intention of the NGO.
Admission of Guilt
Another report here from Malaysian Insider, again if they are realiable, confirms that there are some Christian groups who attempts to proselytise/convert the Muslims. Their modus operandi is to identify the poor, needy and those who have been shunned by the community (eg HIV), help them with their needs, introduce the religion by the way of having various mind enlightenment courses and to cut is short, brainwash them into eventual conversion.
Read here and some sort of denial here
If you think the whole issue is about Christians attempting to proselytise/convert Muslims, you are dead wrong. Even Catholics and other Christian groups are not spared apart from Buddhist, Sikhs and Hindus.
I do have close relatives and friends who are Christians and mostly do not agree with activities of certain Christian Evangalist groups, whose main agenda is seek new followers. I have a Catholic friend who complained that his mother was influenced by Pentecostal movement which practises (I stand corrected) extreme form of worshipping. He was helpless as his mother has become detached from the family, placing importance on activities by the movement above everything else.
If my recollections are accurate, similar groups have in the past managed to convert large number of Indians in the rubber/Palm Oil estates in the 70s and 80s by giving cash, bags of rice and other daily neccesities . Now they are targetting urban poor and this perhaps explains why Muslims are targetted as well. Even recently, I saw a van transporting people to and from a low cost flats bearing name ' XXXX (can't recall) Harapan.
If you ask around, you realise these groups do exist but in it unfair and ridiculous to blame Christians as a whole. This is where Malaysians are lacking after half a century of independence and almost a century co-exisitng in this land. We simply don't know each other well and are fond of generalising.
If you look at other religions, you will realise that there are equal number of deviant groups or cult movements in the name of said religion.
What Now?
Instead of carrying some toilet bowls and brooms to the MB's office, carrying banners, making hundreds of police reports, the so called concerned NGOs and political party should ask themselves, why would Muslims, in this case, or others seek assistance from such groups in the first place. Where were the assistance from NGOs and government (State and Federal) welfare bodies and like what was highlighted by Dr Asri, what happened to the Zakat collections, controlled by state governments, and are they being distributed appropriately to the target group?
And finally, all religious group should just focus on their existing believers/followers. There is no need to seek more believers. Just ensure that the current believers are following and demonstrating the true teaching of respective religions. Get this right first.
You may also wonder why I have not touched on Hindu's. Oh! Yes, I am a Hindu Fanatic. Please....To me, it a gone case. Hindus in Malaysia themselves are not sure of what they are doing in the first place, so do not expect Hindu groups to go around trying to convert others and this will never happen for thousand years unless someone gets enlightened for some reason, like the Mat Sallehs you see in the Thaipusam festival carrying Kavadis. I am not defending Hindus or the religion, its just that they are a confused lot and simply not capable of brain washing others to convert. Get to the below links for my take on Hindus and temples.

Malaysian Indian’s Brains Interloked!
'Pariah was not a fashionable word to insult anyone anymore until this issue surfaced. Therefore Indian leaders, Murugiah, MIC and other Pakatan Indians are equally responsible in revival of this word, which until recently was regularly associated with dogs rather than Indians'
'The day Indian Malaysian themselves reject caste system, seeks equality in social standing and work towards making it non existent in Malaysia, only then the word Pariah will become meaningless and do no harm to anyone, except for maybe the dogs. It's all their own doing and solution is in their own hands therefore, they should not blame the others'
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I received sms today from a lizard brained fellow Indian (I am getting more and more ashamed of being associated with these fellows nowdays). It sounds like this,’very very urgent, please go to Berita Harian online bancian section. Please select batal penggunaan Interlok as currently batal is at 7% and to terus guna is at 67%.
The deputy PM has already announced that some editing might be made to remove allegedly insulting references, Pariah, therefore the bancian and all those sms will benefit only one party, the telcos.
Malaysian Indians, their political leaders from both ends have proven one thing with this episode, they can be hypocrites of the highest order and sometimes, as in this instance, they outdo their counterparts in India. I don’t have to say more about those equally well horned racist and self declared religious extremist, HINDRAF.
Why Now?
The book Interlok has been there for almost 3 decades and no one had any complains. There are many Malaysian Indians who are expert writers, lecturers and even examiners in Bahasa Malaysia. 2 of my high school (early 90s) Bahasa Malaysia teachers were Indians, and I really thought their Bahasa Malaysia were superb and far better than their Malay counterparts. People like them would have certainly come across this novel but chose to remain silent; probably they knew that the word Pariah was relevant, existent and a fact during those years.
As for the masses, Malaysian Indians, except maybe for the youth in national schools, rarely read anything other than a Tamil daily, it is no surprise that only now they have realised the existence of this novel.
I see no reason to remove the Pariah word from the book. Read this to get some idea why.
While I agree that some students may, on purpose use the Pariah word to insult fellow Indian students, it is not a good reason to edit, reprint and distribute the novel all over again. Let’s be realistic, Form 5 student, from my experience, have in their vocabulary , far more degrading, insulting and vulgar words that they could possibly use to insult others.
Pariah was not a fashionable word to insult anyone anymore until this issue surfaced. Therefore Indian leaders, Murugiah, MIC and other Pakatan Indians are equally responsible in revival of this word, which until recently was regularly associated with dogs rather than Indians.
The Maniam family story of coming from a untouchable class or caste is real as many Indians that time thought that they would be able run away from the archaic caste and slavery system in India to start a new lease of life in Malaya. This is true and cannot be denied despite the other reason being better life, survival and nothing else.
Wake Up MIC, Indian Political Leaders, Hindu Sangam & Hindraf.
Caste Politics (MIC & IPF)
I wonder why, suddenly everyone wants to champion the lower class when caste system is still alive in Malaysia. Why these so-called leaders aren’t criticizing existing caste based social structures prevalent in the country, though they are diminishing by the way of mix marriages and ignorance of the better educated lot.
It is a known fact that MIC and it’s leadership are controlled by people of certain upper class or caste. Can they deny this? During the last MIC election, caste was a definitive factor and there was even a group who openly called themselves ‘Nammavar’ which when loosely translated as‘our people’ but silently means ‘our caste’.
When there is rampant acknowledgement of caste politics within the party, why do they suddenly want to defend the untouchables (pariahs) or is it that they feel insulted because they belong to a upper caste and not because the word is insulting to all Indians. I suspect, deep in their heart, the former is the main reason.
MIC’s decades of indulgence in caste politics finally came to open or rather conflict when MG Padithan came to the fore. He managed to become a Vice-President and leadership thought this is the most an untouchable should achieve in the party.
Pandithan’s ouster from MIC in the 80’s revived the caste politics and IPF was born. Pandithan managed to get substantial support from the lower class and caste in estates and other rural areas. If this is not caste politics, I don’t know what is! This is not in an way dissimilar from situation in India where political parties exist mainly to champion respective caste and receive overwhelming support from particular caste. That’s the world’s biggest and flawed democracy at work.
MIC should just shut up and work towards abolishing caste based politics first before thinking of banning any book.
Hindu Sangam Should Just Shut Up
Hindu Sangam’s new leadership found this issue a good opportunity for some cheap publicity for it’s new office bearers. They have chosen to ignore the fact that Hinduism itself is riddled with discrimination based on caste and that even certain gods are associated with certain class and caste. Can they deny this? Why must only people from Brahmin caste can be a temple priest? Until this day people from upper class refuse to enter or even eat in other people’s house deemed to be those in the lower class.
Why don’t Hindu Sangam revolutionise the religion and declare that anyone from any caste can become a priest? I have written to Hindu Sangam on many issues closely related to abuse of religion, cult movements, Thaipusam mayhem , batu caves etc and never received any reply. Hindu Sangam should focus on issues such as this that will benefit the Hindu as a whole. They should just shut up and focus on what they are suppose to do and not waste time on something (Caste) that they themselves legitimize.
Why Don’t They Do This
This Interlok issue provides a golden opportunity for Hindraf and other like minded Indian leaders to reclaim their fast losing support from Indians. If they are insulted with the word ‘Pariah’ they should also be insulted with certain community who identifies themselves by caste. There’s this temple hall at Jalan Ipoh which belongs to a certain caste.
Why don’t Hindraf, who always slams UMNO using the phrase ‘Malay Muslim Terrorist’, go and demolish this hall to prove that they support equality and rejects caste system within the Indian community.
Why burn the books. The book burning incident clearly proves that Indians deserves to be called Pariahs as sometimes they behave like one. Why not burn thousands of books on Hinduism that directly and indirectly promotes and justifies the caste system. Why can’t they discuss and argue this issue in a rational manner rather that becoming emotional.
Why don’t they go and demand that all caste based societies (there are hundreds of them registered with ROS) deregistered.
If Hindu Sangam, MIC , PKR, DAP and Hindraf is really interested to eradicate identification of Indians by caste, they should seek for abolishment of all caste
based societies, temples and NGOs.
They should also demand that Indians should not use their caste names in official documents such as Identity Cards, Birth Certificates and non-official ones such as wedding invitations. I have seen many of those who add caste to their names in the wedding cards although their Identity Cards do not carry one. That’s how particular these people are.
The day Indian Malaysian themselves reject caste system, seeks equality in social standing and work towards making it non existent in Malaysia, only then the word Pariah will become meaningless and do no harm to anyone, except for maybe the dogs. It's all their own doing and solution is in their own hands therefore, they should not blame the others.

Indian Stupidity- Part 2
The Star- 3rd February (letters)
BATU Caves is one of the more popular tourist spots in our country. It is also a holy place for thousands of Hindus who flock there during the Thaipusam festival to fulfil their vows.
I was at Batu Caves during Thaipusam this year, and was saddened by the many unsavoury incidents I witnessed.
First of all, the behaviour of some teenagers in the crowd who did not even care about pregnant women, babies and small children irked me. Where have their values gone?
Another sad thing was the consumption of alcohol which caused great discomfort to others who could not concentrate on their prayers.
I think people who visit the Batu Caves temple during Thaipusam without any intention to pray should not enter the holy site.
UTHAYAKUMAR TECHINAMOORTHY,
Kuala Lumpur.
END -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The above lament by one devotee is not a new phenomenon. I wrote about this in 2002 and not much has changed, which also means the Indian Malaysian public manners and attitude never changed much over the decades.
This year, I have seen things which are even worse. For example there was a group who was carrying the ‘kavadi’ for fun, parading it around until the compound with no intention to complete the prayers. They made lots of noises to attract attention. It was already chaotic, but the public, the bystanders, were more interested to view the antics of these stupid Indians, who have no respect and regards for the religion. In a way, instead of condemning them, the public were in fact encouraging such act, as a form of entertainment.
As for the Temple authorities, they were more interested to make money, who cares if the so-called devotees are adhering to the religious norms. No representative from the two rival Hindu Councils and Hindu Sangam ( why two! Indians what - Have to be divided) were making any statements or reminders asking devotees to behave or adhere to religious norms. What we see at Thaipusam in Malaysia differs from those of in India, hence most of the so-called religious practices are man-made, here by creative Malaysian Indians.
While the above writer mentioned about behavior of teenagers, the adults are no different. It’s their own despicable attitude that encourages the young to emulate them in the first place. Most of the rituals and practices presented for world view that day are never forced upon by the religion. It was on their own will and creativity. Last year there were kavadi’s with Liverpool and Manchester United. So much for Indian creativity. I can only wish that the Indians channel their creativity towards other meaningful endeavors, like their children education.
Some spend thousands on kavadi that is never compulsory. Imagine how much funds that can be accumulated and channeled towards more meaningful causes from just one day.
As for the temple authorities at Batu Caves, they were more interested in reaping profit from the biggest show in Malaysia. They allow stalls to be put up almost ¾ of the temple compound, leaving little space for people to walk about. They also put up a huge fun-fair to add some light hearted entertainment following to some serious religious undertakings by the devotees.
Who is listening? No one, because nobody likes change and nobody wants to change. What about it leaders, even they, including the higher educated ones, don’t want Indians to change. Because as long as Indians remain stupid, these equally stupid politicians can continue to fool them and take advantage to advance their narrow agenda. The religious leaders on the other hand, does not want to make enemies with politicians, who controls most of the temples in the country, hence they tend to keep quiet.

Indian Stupidity
KUALA LUMPUR: Members of several non-governmental organisations are seeking “divine intervention” during Thaipusam for the Tamil Lan-guage and Tamil Literature papers to be made core SPM subjects.
They plan to fast and carry the pal kudam (milk offering) on Thaipusam Day at Batu Caves.
The NGOs behind the protest are calling themselves the SPM 12 Subjects Retention Group.
Committee chairman A. Thiru-venggadam said the fast and pal kudam offering would take place from 8.30am to 3.30pm.
Speaking at a press conference at the management office of the Batu Caves temple grounds here yesterday, Thiruvenggadam said they also hoped to hand a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when he launches the Thaipusam celebration on the eve of Thaipu-sam.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is what one would call, stupidity in the name of religion.
I did not know that Hindu god, Murugan at Batu Caves can influence the DPM to change his stance on the issue. If this happens to be true, then I would lbe likely to do the same for reinstatement of Teaching Of Science and Maths in English.
Why is there a need to handover memorandum to the Prime Minister when the Hindu God can help is beyond me. The same group, if I am not mistaken held hunger srike few months ago. So what happened? Hunger strike nowdays is from 9 am to 5pm it seems, taking cue from various hunger strike held the same way almost every day back in Tamil Nadu.
The HINDRAF did the same in 2008 praying for release of their beloved leaders. In fact, there’s another group, Sri Murugan Centre who organises annual education pilgrimage to Batu Caves, an event which gathers about 100,000 student who will be sitting for various exams for the year.
Another cult group, have their cult leader’s birthday at Batu Caves seeking better times for their followers, some of whom are in dire situation despite all the rituals and prayers, spending thousands of ringgit in the process.
All these illustrates the stupidity of Indians in this country. Every other year they carry our prayers, wows, harms their body with various sharp object, walk on fire , carry heavy ‘Kavadi’ (some with liverpool and Man Utd logos, another example of their religious stupidity) and it appears like their prayers are not really answered, if you listen to what PKR, DAP and Hindraf politicians has to say about situation of Indians in the country. Who do the Indians blame.. who else but BN. Why not the lord Murugan, who appears not to be answering their prayers. Not wanting to repeat myself, the answers are here. Perhaps they should go here.

MIC : In Their Own World
Almost all other BN parties have seen changes in their leadership but despite massive failures in the general elections, MIC members are adamant that the current failed leaders are still needed.
Datuk Subramaniam failed challenge of Datuk Palanivel has been expected but this is certainly not a measure to rejuvenate the party, as these two politicians are nothing but spent force. Many thought Subra’s win can bring some hope of change, but this is not to be. Sothinanthan worked as the spoiler to Subra’s plans. While Sothinanthan is still young, Subra’s political career can be considered as good as over.
Subra may still have some options but he is unlikely to move to opposition, not after decades in BN.
Samy Vellu can proudly claim that he still commands support in the party, but the fact remains that more than half did not vote for his choice for Deputy. Even the vice presidents of his choice, won due to their own popularity, owing to decent performance in their respective government post, though they were nominated to the government post by Samy Vellu.
My only regret is that Dr Subramaniam ( the Human Resources Minister) should have contested the Deputy President post. He is credible, fluent in all three languages and appear to be well liked by all, not only in MIC.
The only consolation is that some young leaders have been appointed as Secretary General, Information Chief and Treasurer.
With this development, things can only go down hill for MIC. There’s nothing for Samy to be proud of. Almost approximately 70% of Indians voted for the opposition in the March 8 elections, and even with the Najib feel good factor, more than half Indians voters, mostly young voters, are still leaning towards the opposition. The main reason is they hate Samy Vellu and to a lesser extend BN.
Najib and even Mahathir’s hint for change was not heeded by the delegates. My interaction with the grassroots, right after the MIC elections, indicates that none will return if Samy remains. That’s a fact and majority Malaysians would agree. Many Indians only have harsh and disgusting words for Samy Vellu. His son and daughter-in law’s involvement in the party has only further infuriated many. They see this an attempt to turn MIC into Samy Sdn Bhd.
Pakatan Rakyat’s further decline in performance and lack of initiatives for Indians will ensure some votes return to BN. With this development, it is as if MIC has chosen to keep them out of the equation.
Rightfully members should be discussing on their lost of support and perhaps the outcome of the post mortem further to the general elections in the annual assembly, none happened and Samy Vellu summed up the issue by saying MIC lost support due to BN and not him. And the MIC delegates accepted that. That says a lot about their ability to gauge public sentiments. No further debates on this and they appear to be contented with President’s argument and some BN bashings throughout the assembly.
They appear to be happy with their current standings in the eyes of people. They appear not to be bothered with various criticisms and onslaught by Hindraf and Pakatan Rakyat Indian leaders. They appear to in their own world.
Unless some drastic change happens, MIC is likely to be completely wiped out in the next elections and they will eventually be where they want to be, in their own world.

IPF, MIC, HINDRAF, MINDRAF, MMSP, UMIP, coming soon ...LTMI
Like everyone else, except for these party members, I am sceptical about their ability to garner support. Their purpose is again to demand equal rights to Indians Malaysians in the country, no different from MIC, IPF, MIUP, formed by Anwar's former tennis buddy, Nalakaruppan.
Uthayakumar, the stubborn Hindraf leader, also seen as the most influential, mentioned several times that he may launch another party. This leaves the Indian Malaysians, the biggest minority, with the most number of political parties in the country.
Feedback from ground suggest that this party is unlikely to capture the imagination of Indian Malaysian and likely to fade into oblivion in just few years. The party president was once accused by fellow Hindraf leader as a spy from special branch sent to infiltrate Hindraf during its active days and was reportedly completely detached from the other 4 HINDRAF detainees while on ISA. This party, Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party (MMSP), claims Thanenthiran, will seek dialogue and support from both BN and Pakatan Rakyat it seems. Thanenthiran's statement that they are open to receiving funds from anyone clearly reflects that MMSP has no principles whatsoever. They are there with some agenda and money ‘talks’, according to them.
I see this as an influence from Tamil Nadu, India where there are possibly hundreds of parties, including those reigned by Movie Stars, which many see as an abuse of democracy and a waste. Political parties in India has a tough time garnering support and establishing power base due to constant shift of preference by the electorate. Political parties there are no longer relying on the ideology as they vote margins are so thin that they no longer preach about or promote their ideology in the open.
For example, the Chief minister of Tamil Nadu is pronounced atheist but these values are not promoted by his party's (DMK) as their major vote bank are Hindus and while their hardcore supporters are also atheist, majority supporters are from various faith. DMK’s major ally in the state government is a Muslim party. All these parties change their allegiance every other elections as long as there is something for them, hence you see a Hindu party form coalition with a communist and Muslim party. Strange but true, so the odd partnership in Pakatan Rakyat (DAP + PAS) is nothing compared to what is happening in India.
These mosquito Indian Malaysian parties appear to be doing the same. They have no ideology, principles or values whatsoever. Hindraf, though not a political party was supposed to defend Hindu Rights but their actions thus far are nowhere near the values of the religion. They blame everybody for all the ills faced by the Indian Malaysian community but fail to admonish weaknesses, mistakes and misadventure by the very Hindus they claim to be defending. They just 'close one eye'.
Their determination is to defend all things Indian or Hindu, no matter that the roots cause of many of the issues highlighted are Indian Malaysians themselves, example; building illegal temples which is not required/requested by anyone on land belonging to others. They also could not care less if people of other races are suffering too. For them poor Indians deserve attention more than any poor from other races.
Other Indian champions like Manikavasagam, Manoharan and 'the bus stopper' Gobalakrishnan knew that these new political parties are not likely to win people's support and that their own non-Indian majority voters will ditch them soon enough if they choose to move to any of these mosquito parties. They are playing safe although it is likely that they will provide their moral support or in Gobalakrishnan's case, his expertise in identifying vehicles carrying phantom voters during elections.
This new party will definitely put some pressure on Pakatan Rakyat especially PKR. PKR won many of the seats with thin majority and it is thought that Indian votes made the difference. PKR and their leaders promised the moon to Indian Malaysians during the campaigns but so far, not much has been delivered, something that HINDRAF leaders complained and acknowledged. It is also on this premise that Utayakumar and brother Waytamoorthy may shift their attention to focus on formation of a new political party rather than relying on PKR.
Pakatan Rakyat, who is in power in 4 (and sometimes 5) states, failed to implement any major policies or blueprint addressing issues highlighted or rather demanded by HINDRAF or Indians Malaysian in general. Once in power, they realised that they can't simply give away land for schools and temples, although land comes under the state government. Having interacted with people in Selangor, support for Pakatan Rakyat is declining though they are certainly not running towards MIC.
PKR and DAP's multiracial approach will not endear them to Hindraf and if they (PKR) openly and loudly show support to any Hindraf related organisation or political parties, they are likely to lose support from the non-Indians, as they have been seeing a decline of Malay support recently. They will definitely thread cautiously and would not want to be seen associated with any of these race based party or risk their multiracial policies and approach ring hollow with the electorates.
In summary, Indian Malaysians continued to be treated as idiots by their so-called leaders. These leaders are convinced that Indian Malaysian are dumb enough to easily change their allegiance often enough from one party to another, perhaps due to their exposure to Indian politics, as soon as they see something attractive without looking at the background, track record and principles of these leaders.
Soon enough, there will be more parties named after some prominent political parties in India, examples; Malaysian Indian Communist Party, Malaysian Indian Muslim League, Malaysian Indian Darividian Party, Malaysian Indian Anna Daravidian Party.
If everythings else fails, we may see the emergence of Liberation Tigers Of Malaysian Indians Party (LTMI) or Malaysian Indian Liberation Tigers, taking Malaysian Indians where LTTE failed.
My personal experience and interactions with Indian Malaysians confirms many times over that Middle and lower class Indian Malaysians are easily influenced, as evidenced greatly by their confusion with their own religion and cultural practises,
They will continuously be used by various parties due to their own weaknesses, something that no single Indian Malaysian leader has come forward to admit or acknowledge.

Pakatan must disassociate itself from Hindraf
Anak Bangsa Malaysia | Apr 3, 09 4:24pm
I refer to the Malaysiakini report, Hindraf to back PKR's Manikumar.
Hindraf has disgraced itself by acting like a spoilt brat in Bukit Selambau just because PKR did not choose the Hindraf coordinator as their candidate.
For a movement which is supposedly apolitical, Hindraf leaders now want political rewards and positions for themselves.
Bukit Selambau is a mixed seat with 50% Malays, 30% Indians and 20% Chinese. To have any chance of winning, a candidate must garner the support of all races, not just the Indians.
For PKR to field a Hindraf man would be a disaster as the 70% of the non-Indians have no reason to vote for the representative of an ethnocentric movement with a one-race agenda.
Knowing that the Bukit Selambau by-election is an acid test for Samy Vellu which will determine whether the MIC strongman’s political fortunes rise or fall, Hindraf still insists on not assisting in a PKR win.
If MIC’s candidate wins this by-election, it will give Samy Vellu a new lease of political life but Hindraf will cheer his victory just to spite Anwar while the Indian community will be the loser.
Compare Hindraf’s attitude with Nicholas Bawin who still works tirelessly for a PKR win in Batang Ai even though he was not selected as candidate despite being the frontrunner.
This is a man who cares about his community more than personal rewards for himself unlike the self-serving leaders of Hindraf.
Hindraf’s self-serving attitude is best illustrated by the Hindraf Penang deputy coordinator’s statement that Indians continue to be marginalised under the Pakatan Rakyat states which he justified by saying:
‘Only in Perak, some Hindraf leaders were appointed as members of village committees and municipal councillors. But no Hindraf leaders or supporters were appointed to any position in other Pakatan states’.
Apparently, to satisfy Hindraf’s criteria, only Hindraf Indians appointed to positions of power and responsibility count, not any ordinary Indian.
So V Sivakumar as Perak assembly speaker or Dr D Jayakumar as Selangor exco member don’t count because they are not from Hindraf.
Seeing everything through a racial lens is bad enough but Hindraf now wants to go one step further and see everything through a Hindraf racial lens.
It is obvious that Hindraf is another MIC in the making, championing personal advancement instead of the Indian community.
This sort of attitude just makes me sick. Pakatan Rakyat should speedily disassociate itself from Hindraf as a movement with a racist one-race agenda has no place in its vision of a new colour-blind Malaysia.
In any case, Hindraf is a floundering organisation with little influence left as the results of the Bukit Selambau by-election will show.

FOUND : Solution For ‘Long Suffering’ Indian Malaysians.
Hindu Sangam, Hindraf, MIC, IPF, PPP, Indian (or rather Tamil) Heroes in PKR and DAP should read this and passed around to their supporters and be ready to close shop as they would not be relevant anymore. There is no stopping other Malaysians to try this out as long as they can understand little Tamil.
Muslims, with respect, are not encouraged to participate unless you are prepared to face the wrath of the authorities.
There is this organization called Rajayoga Power Transcendental Meditation, (RPT) run by one “His Divine Grace Dato’ Seri Guruji” .
What is RPT? (Taken from their official website)
RPT claims that they are the only organization which focuses on the art of holding and utilizing maximum amount of pranic energy in our body through pranayama practice (breathing skill) and guiding towards material and spiritual enhancement in a human life.
What is PRANIC ENERGY? Pranic energy is the ultimate energy that keeps the entire universe operating in a very organized manner. The energy that is operating the universe is the basic energy from which all types of energies are derived.
This is the only energy which keeps the universe and all its animate and inanimate objects "alive". Organic and inorganic cycles are also operating based on this subtle energy. To penetrate the art of holding and accumulating the energy in our body totally rests in the hand of the Master. As for RPT, the Divine Master have mastered this art and has possessed the ability to transmit and convey the skills to disciples and only then will an individual be able to utilize this pranic energy to achieve success in both material and spiritual. This ability is achievable by everyone irregardless of race, religion and nationality. This empowering process is done through a particular discipline, which is the Rajayoga.
Apparently it would just require participation of one day course and follow through with a 5-10 minutes of practice everyday. That’s all
Those who are practicing this yogic power have seen success in the following areas:

Testimonials
“I’m Mrs. XXXX, before joining this course I was financially down and therefore was excusing myself from attending the course. Soon later I managed to take this course and trust me, I’m doing very well in my career and have been selected and awarded with the best actress title and now I’m financially stable and managed to get a new car and I’m extremely happy to see such a fast progress in my life after attaining this yogic energy from this course and all my gratitude goes to His Divine Grace. This feels like a mini Thaipusam (Indian religious celebration) because this has attracted such a huge crowd. This is only possible today because of the love from His Divine Grace to the disciples”

Summary
In summary, RPT can solve all the problems faced by human beings, more so in the time of economic crisis. The bad news , however, is that looking at the benefits as a result of attending this course, some jobs, sectors, and industries would no longer be needed and many would be out of job.. They are doctors, hospitals, marriage counselors/lawyers, job agencies, Communication consultants, Training consultants, Beau & Anti-Aging Centres, Limkokwing University, political parties, politicians and some others, indirectly.
Maybe people from these sectors should also attend the course to improve their well being once they are out of job.
Reality : Indian Malaysians Conned Again!
A person known to me has been taken in by this man's (His Divine Grace ) blatant brain washing, black magic and other tricks employed during the courses, that he has been ignoring his wife, kids and parents. He spent a fortune for related courses by RPT and as a result is currently saddled with huge debt.
He proudly claims that he can drink weed killers, poison and eat glasses with the powers accorded by the Guruji. This has been going on for many years and he is still in debt. He even places Guruji above anyone else, including his mother. I believe he is not the only one.
It was reported that there were thousands who came for his birthday last Sunday at Batu Caves, a venue headed by the Head of Hindu Council . He was accorded traditional welcome usually reserved for deities. Followers treated him like a god and many profess openly that he is the god’s reincarnation. He is said to be able to vanish into thin air during his courses and display many magical tricks.
Thousands of Indian Malaysians are gullible enough to believe him. His followers appears to be in a spell, obsessed and can't think for themselves. And not surprisingly many of them are well educated. People even believe that food blessed by him can cure ailments and there were instances where he blesses the food served out in the open from his Mercedes, imagine how stupid Indian Malaysians has become.
What appears to be result of participants hard work, good luck and concrete achievements are attributed to Guruji without evidence or logic by these followers.
RM 140 Million
I was told Courses run from RM 700 to RM 15,000 for higher grade course and many sacrificied their hard earned money on Guruji while being saddled with debt by taking Guruji's course and when asked, they say that Guruji will ensure that they get their returns, much more than what they paid.
Their website claims that 200,000 people had so far attended the course, therefore this man (His Divine Grace) would have amassed at least RM 140 Million. No wonder he drives Mercedez, lives in luxury while others suffer waiting in hope.
Tamil Press & Other Feedback
Press reports on his birthday was irresponsible and misleading. Those full back page coverage in various Tamil newspapers on his birthday last Sunday must have been are paid for, as the writers appear to shower divinely praises upon the Guruji. There were also references made out indirectly proclaiming that Guruji is god.
There are small group of people who are either unhappy or directly affected with RPT and their activities venting their frustration through the internet forums.
Hindu Sangam & HINDRAF’s 18 Point Memorandum
I have written to Hindu Sangam urging them to either denounce such cult, deviant groups openly, or otherwise to openly support it so that socio-economic condition of the Indian can be uplifted through his courses!!
Existence of RPT also begs a question; if thousands of families have benefited from his course, why aren't Indians still claiming that they are in poverty, why the need for HINDRAF, why rebel against the government? RPT’s courses, if true as claimed would have solved all the issues raised in HINDRAF’s 18 Point Memorandum and would have made Indian Malaysians the healthiest, wealthiest, happiest, most creative and not least, the community with least number of divorces.
Recommendation To The Malaysian Government
Since the government welcomed suggestions for the Mini Budget, it would be wise if the Finance Minister include some allocation for Indian Malaysians in his upcoming mini-budget to go for this course. This is, if the Finance Minister is ‘sincere enough’ in resolving problems faced by Indian Malaysians and as a result, this would surely make HINDRAF irrelevant.
Various NGOs, Hospitals and Doctor should also engage this man to cure all kinds of ailments afflicting Malaysians.
For those who can afford, just go here to find out more and you are on your way to become healthiest, wealthiest, happiest, most creative Malaysian….and say goodbye to Hindu Sangam, HINDRAF, MIC, IPF, PPP, Indian (or rather Tamil) Heroes in PKR and DAP…
Good Luck and I was told that there is NO money back guarantee…

HINDRAF Hunger Strike
Fifteen Hindraf supporters launched a hunger strike on Sunday to demand the abolition of a tough security law which the government says is needed to combat terrorism, organisers said.
"The five-day hunger strike is to protest against the draconian Internal Security Act (ISA) and to demand all detainees are freed," S. Jayathas, coordinator of the rights group Hindraf which organised the strike, told AFP.
CORRUPTED BARISAN NASIONAL
"The hunger strike is also to demand the government end all injustices in Malaysia and stop discriminating against minority Indians."
The ISA, a relic of the British colonial era when it was used to fight a communist insurgency, allows for renewable two-year periods of detention without trial.
The government says it is a vital tool to fight terrorism, but rights groups say the law has been improperly used to silence government critics, and that detainees are mentally and physically tortured.
Rights groups say 70 people, mainly alleged Islamic militants, are being held under the ISA.
Hunger strikers to only take water
The protesters are staging their hunger strike at a small temple north of Kuala Lumpur.
Some of those taking part are relatives of five Hindu Rights Action Front (Hindraf) leaders, who are being held under the ISA.
The five, one of whom is a state lawmaker, were arrested after enraging the government last November by mounting a mass rally alleging discrimination against Malaysia's minority ethnic Indians.
Ethnic Indians make up less than eight percent of the 27-million-strong population of the mainly Muslim Malay country.
Jayathas said the protesters would only consume water during the strike. -- Malaysiakini
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These bunch of jokers appears to have not learnt their lesson.
Hindraf or now disguised as 'Makkal Sakhti' appears to take cue from Tamil Nadu where numerous hunger strikes are held as a form of protest almost everyday.
It's quite funny that those held in India usually last a day, from 9am to 5pm and everyone goes back after that. Hindraf's hunger strike allows protesters to consume water. What 'hunger strike'?, they must be either joking or scared that the would not even last till the evening of the first day. They were also seen holding Gandhi's potraits. If they wish to emulate Gandhi, then they should not consume anything at all.
I think this is a first ever 'hunger' strike anywhere that allows protesters to consume water. Malaysia Book Of Records should have been there to record the moment of history made in our soil.
Hindaf's previous hunger strikes, reportedly in January and August met with poor support from their blood brothers, who had more important things, like job and family to take care rather than simply waste hours of their time.
The same is expected to happen this time, only 15 people are willing to participate. Whatever happened to thousands of their supporters!, I predict that the hunger strike will not last for days as expected.
Knowing well the characterictics of Hindraf supporters, I will not be surprised if participants run to nearest Indian restaurants for few servings of banana leave rice after a day.
I was at a Indian wedding last week, few of the staunch supporters spoke nothing of the hunger strike or Hindraf. One of them hosted the lavish wedding and another private bash at home, one has gone for a long holiday, one preparing for a birthday bash, while some came (few hundred kilometres) all the way from KL, put up a the nearest hotel to join the after dinner drinks.
This is maybe their version of "the result of years of discrimination, marginalisation, abject poverty and ethnic cleansing"..

Hindraf - Reader's Comments
I am not a social psychologist or an anthropologists, but if there is a weakness amongst Indians everywhere in the world, it's that we are just too damned emotional. Emotion precedes rational thought.
Hindraf is a brainchild of Uthayamoorthy and his brother Waythamoorthy, who started the whole thing out of his own frustration against the Malaysian cops. They were famous for defending widow/mothers of dead prisoners, said to be killed by cops. Are they a rational-minded brave leadesr out to defend these poor families? I am not sure. I believeWaythamoorthy ran to UK when he was said to be threatened by cops.
A brave leader? I think not. I received forwarded mails describing him as William Wallace. Sir William Wallace was a Scottish freedom warrior who came from working class and, as you may have seen in the movie Braveheart, died for his people. Unlike the more glamorous death in the movie, he was drawn and quartered, pretty ugly death that the Hindraf supporters are probably not aware off.
And Waythamoorthy is compared to William Wallace. What did the other Hindraf leader do, when things were hot in Malaysia? He stayed on in cool UK, instead of coming here to face the realities. What is he, then? Salman Rushdie?
The mother of all ironies is the fact that the persons leading the organisation are not from the working class or materially poor. These are successful lawyers. And you may argue that it was a lawyer who led India to her independence. Of course, fellow Indian shot him later, but that's another story.
What Hindraf would have needed is a leader from the working class. Hindraf could have been a successful "union" for poor Indians. But no, we needed a hero to come along….
Let's face it; we are a race of hero-worshippers. We need hero, not from our own, but from a different category. Given a choice of a hardworking rubber taper with guts, or a successful Lawyer with easy entry to UK, whom would you choose? Okay, you and I will chose the rubber tapper, encourage him, give moral support and encourage him to be rational first.
But most people are drawn to the "higher" class of leaders. They supposedly have money and brain to match, and can buy them free beers. Alas, what can the poor rubber tapper give them?
I am merely repeating what you have wrote. All the good points in your point-to-point argument fell on the deaf ears. Again, a very ordinary reaction. We want to hear what we want to hear, other than that pay no attention. They probably caught your argument agreeing on few things, like education for example. Other than that, I can see them simply getting pissed, "how dare he disagree!" rather than taking that underused brain of theirs to task of understanding what you wrote, check the facts if they feel yours is wrong, or even counter-argue with their own facts.
Rational thinking is not an option. It is not even discussed in many Indian families. We are always told to not ask question and just follow. Our religious practises are thousands of years old, and are out of date, but lately they have been making a comeback in form of commerce, and you yourself have wrote many letters saying that these merchants are making use of Indians and their beliefs. Nobody listened.
We all know about Batu Caves and the money it made and where it went. Nobody went there to the Batu Caves management demanding to know what had happened. Nobody went to Samy Velu's house for peaceful demonstration for failing the Indians. No. They have to go to foreign embassy, which is there to protect the interest of its own countries and people.
And now, look at Hindraf. At odds with the opposition party for the same old, age old, temple issue! The whole world is in the brink of economic meltdown, with 100 plus years old corporations going bust, with economic uncertainties facing not you, not me, but the entire 6 billion plus populations.
And they are bitching about the temple, shrine, place of worship, or whatever you call it, which is probably frequented by less than 50 persons.
We cannot have an organisation. We have, how many, three or four parties representing us? Well, the big ones are MIC, IPF and PPP that has majority Indians. Then, someone split from MIC and formed MIC Baru and similar thing happened to IPF when Pandithan passed away. Oh, and Nallakaruppan started one on his own. And then, we have Hindraf, though not political…was very political and racist at the same time, and it too got split!
You want to know Indians, look at India. Look at the number of political parties, religious sects, NGOs, and not to forget the terribly buy unions. It just does not work. Best way is to work hard, do well and help each other…. as you have mentioned.
I read somewhere that late Tun VT Sambanthan said Indians and Chinese, outside of their homeland, are treated badly, almost second-class citizens, but it was Malays in Malaysians who took us in as brothers and sisters.
All baskets will have one or two rotten apples, but should we throw away those baskets?
My writing is here is certainly full of faults, mistakes and weak argument, but if other readers are reading this, please reread what Balan had wrote carefully and pay due attention. If needed, do independent check on facts and figures that he had argued. There are many sites, blogs (see the links) that can give you more perception on what is happening.
Here is something I agree with all of you Hindraf supporters: Samy Velu should go, should shut down MIC, and declare himself as a failure as Indian Malaysians leader. Work on that. Send
SMSes asking him to shut down MIC and apologise. After that, push for authorities to investigate whatever wrong doings he had committed in his time as minister in the cabinet. If you feel that it is too drastic, than do your usual peaceful assembly in front of his house asking him to hand over the administrations to one of your leaders, revive MIC, take control of it, and do what is needful in a more appreciated manner.
Oh, and get all the Indian organisations under one umbrella.
Do that if you still need a single powerful organisation to represent us all. Frankly, I think we can do without any organisation and just help each other as fellow human beings. In this world filled with wonderful flora and fauna, racial cards need not apply!

Balan : It was reported that there are 7,000 temples or shrines in Selangor and fewer that 50 Tamil Schools. What an achievement!! Imagine how much money could have been diverted to schools, students welfare or scholarship rather than building more and more temples, as a matter of pride and chest-thumping exercise for few individuals with bloated egos'.
Somebody said that 'common sense' is no longer common. I have to completely agree with that, at least in Malaysia.

Ampang Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Demolition- Dr Xavier, stop the same BN tune !
Jalan Toman 7
Kemayan Square
70200Seremban.
PRESS STATEMENT – 27 Sept 2008
RE: DEMOLITION OF SRI MAHA KALIAMMAN TEMPLE AMPANG
DR XAVIER JAYAKUMAR OF PAKATAN EXCO LOST THE PLOT ON TEMPLE “NOT REGISTERED ACCORDING TO THEIR FORMAT”.PAKATAN GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT FOLLOW THEIR PREDECESSORSATTITUDE OF MISLEADING THE PEOPLE ON “REGISTER” ISSUE.IS PAKATAN GOVERNMENT WILLING TO LODGE POLICE REPORTS ON AMPANG JAYA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL??
HINDRAF is shocked with the statement made by Dr.Xavier Jayakumar which appears to echo that of the usual excuses given by BN and UMNO leaders that Temples are demolished because they are not “registered”.
We maintain our stand that there are no provisions currently under the Law to register the existence of a Temple and that this and all temples exist legally under Article 11 of the Federal Constitution. The issue of legality of a Temple does not exist at all and it is a duty of the Government to provide land and funds for places of worships belonging to any and all religious groups.
The statement by Dr. Jayakumar that the Sri Maha Kaliamman Temple is not registered with the Selangor State Council and that it did not fulfil the “format” of registration is a joke and makes a mockery of the basic right to worship of every citizen. It appears the Pakatan Government is singing the same tune of the previous Barisan Government in misleading the community to believe that the temple committee was at fault for not registering the temple. We challenge Dr Jayakumar and his Pakatan Government to produce the necessary provisions of the state Law that stipulated the necessity of the so-called “format”. To add insult to injury he had the audacity to say this is not a Temple but a shrine.
Is he trying to indicate that it was okay to demolish a shrine? How less is a shrine than a temple?? The problem with these politicians is they do not give a dam about the feelings ofHindus and the need to provide and gazette places of worships belonging to Hindus.HINDRAF have specifically written to the 5 Pakatan led Governments to gazette all temples (which is directly under their purview) but till date they have not taken any positive steps to do the same and keep misleading the people in the same way BN did.
HINDRAF is taken aback with the statement that the MPAJ had ordered the demolition of the Temple without knowledge or directive of the state Government. If the statement of Dr.Xavier is true he should take the most responsible step by lodging police report and insist the police initiate criminal proceedings against MPAJ for theirCriminal act under the penal Code for defiling a place of worship.
The statement by Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin justifying the demolition of the temple on grounds of misunderstanding between MPAJ and temple management on renovation works and documentation is another mockery. Is it consistent with good Governance to demolish a place of worship should there be a “misunderstanding”. Would anyone in MPAJ dare demolish a mosque?
HINDRAF hereby calls on the Selangor Government to stop playing politics and mislead the people and immediately gazette all places of worships and provide land and funding for the purposes of erection of places of worships belonging to Hindus and non-Muslims.
P.Waytha Moorthy
Chairman HINDRAF
Here you go, can all the HINDRAF supporters who voted for the opposition wake up or do they need some divine intervention to open their eyes?.
"Valge 'Makkal Shakti', Hidup 'Makkal Sakhti', Long Live 'Makkal Sakhti'
This is the what I heard and also received through sms when Pakatan Rakyat won in 5 states in the March 8 General Elections. Now Dr Xavier is singing the same tune as BN, it seems. It was also reported that there's at least another 10 temples or shrines nearby.
Now, it's a case of some fools being fooled by another group of fools. Now the fools, who were fooled, would be wondering who else can they turn to.
They should all run to their leader in UK and enjoy the begining of winter and shout 'Makkal Sakhti' at the Trafalgar Square until someone listens.
PS. Wonder why the Hindraf chairman has yet to be able to secure something in UK despite being there for almost a year now. Who is funding his stay and what does he do for living? Mr Waytaa, I am still waiting for my Million Ringgit you promised.

Hindraf - I Rest My Case!
In the end, we have 5 People in jail, families struggling without the breadwinners and another group of people going around the country during various Pooja's and Yaagams to pray for the HINDRAF 5's release. The only people who benefited are the priest's who charges astronomical fees to conducts such prayers nowadays.
Although the government took notice of HINDRAF, they would have listened and done something if HINDRAF conducted their activities properly and sought peaceful means to achieve their objectives.
HINDRAF claims to be apolitical and said recently that they would support any political party that can assist them to achieve their objectives. Not much spoken about the fact that many of their member are also members of DAP and PKR . Anwar Ibrahim and all other Opposition Parties used HINDRAF's catch phrase "Makkal Sakhti' to the hilt during the recent general elections and even during the Permatang Pauh by-elections.
With opposition in power in 5 states, it should be payback time, I wonder why HINDRAF has yet to get in touch and seek assistance from the state governments of Selangor, Perak, Kedah, Kelantan and Penang. They claimed that the Barisan Nasional government and MIC were not sympathetic with their struggles and failed the Indian Malaysians.
If one carefully look at the demographics, if I’m not mistaken more than 50% of Indian Malaysians reside in Selangor, Perak and Penang while the rest are concentrated in Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Johor. If the HINDRAF seriously believes that Barisan Nasional cannot help their cause, why did they not bulldoze their way into offices of Chief Ministers of the opposition held states. Instead, HINDRAF are seen everywhere holding flag raising dinners and prayers.
Since most of their complaints and claims of victimisations are linked to availability and ownership of land for Tamil Schools and Hindu Temples, they should have by now won 50% of the battle since land matters are under the purview of state governments. They could have easily seized the moment as the opposition is in the mood of giving away almost everything for free to win popular support.
It was reported that the Perak state government have allocated hundreds of acres of land and annual allocation of funds for Chinese Schools (The Star 30th Aug,'1,000ha Land For Perak Independent Schools) since the Chinese School operators took the right step at the right time to reach out to the state government.
By now, HINDRAF should be crying 'Makkal Sakhti' in front of Perak State Governement's office and seek similar allocation of land and funds for Tamil School. Where are they?
If I'm not mistaken HINDRAF was holding a prayer (Yaagam - Fire Ritual) in Mantin on the same day (30th Aug) to mark "one year of the Hindraf class suit against UK government amounting USD 4 trillion for the neglect of its government during the Malaysia independence for the Indians whom were brought by British to Malaysia".
If HINDRAF seriously believe that criss-crossing the country in the hope for divine intervention will help, then HINDRAF should not have sent any memorandum, demonstrate, get 5 people arrested under ISA, several people injured and many wasting their annual leaves and unpaid leaves, not to mention creating nuisance for the general public. They should have just gathered at one place, a temple inside a cave perhaps and pray for divine intervention, and wait for the intervention to happen. Why waste other's time.
This is where HINDRAF fails. There are no strategies, no planning, no quick thinking (not to mention rational thinking) to achieve their objectives. The opportunities are there in the 5 states. They (political parties) made use of HINDRAF and now it should be HINDRAF's turn to make use of the state governments. In fact most of HINDRAF’s supporters are from the Opposition, mainly PKR and DAP. Majority of Indian Malaysians also voted for the opposition, even PAS, in the recent general elections.
This is where the Chinese associations are smart, they are well organised, not extreme, engages the government of the day to get what they wanted, quietly without making a big fuss. HINDRAF are good at making noise but end up an empty vessel.
Instead, we still see more and more plans for all kinds of rituals and prayers in the future. (see HINDRAF's link at the right panel for their schedule)
Of recent, it was also reported that HINDRAF has now split into several factions and their de-facto leader has gone on to accuse that one of the leader is actually a police special branch agent planted within HINDRAF to check on the movement's activities. By now the readers would realise that the government need not plant any spies within HINDRAF as there's nothing to spy on unless to check if the prayer rituals are equivalent to some cult or deviant practises. Even then, in Malaysia, Hindu's are quite free to start their own version of HINDU religion or even pray to a living person.
I was watching one of Tamil program on 10th September where a US trained Indian Malaysian Chef (from Paloh, Johor), who is now a food and beverage industry consultant was interviewed. This chap had served in many countries is now back in Malaysia as a consultant. He was asked on the prospects on Indians in the food and beverage industry
(Other than normal Indian Restaurants). He mentioned that no other countries provide opportunities for someone to start up a business with grants, funds and loan such as Tekun, Amanah Ikhtiar Fund, Bank Pembagunan etc available for start ups and reinvestment of businesses. Tony Fernandez of Air Asia also frequently mentioned that opportunities are plenty, we just need to find the right avenues (not connections) to grab it.
HINDRAF is nothing but a lost cause with some casualties of course. Indian Malaysians were and are being fooled by a group of lawyers who had no sense of direction whatsoever when they started the movement and even now, where they appear to be blind to opportunities in front of them.
Now, I sincerely, can only hope for a divine intervention to enlighten the Indian Malaysians and make them realise that they made to look and act foolish all this while by HINDRAF while others continue to progress by grabbing opportunities made available to everyone. Indian Malaysians image in the eyes of fellow citizens are at the lowest ebb, no thanks to HINDRAF and it will take years before it is reversed.

The Rt. Hon. Gordon Brown
Prime Minister of the United Kindom

Fax: +442079250918London,
URGENT
SW1A 2AA
Dear Sirs,
RE: 1. COMMONWEALTH ETHNIC INDIAN PEACE LOVING SUBJECTS IN MALAYSIA PERSECUTED BY GOVERNMENT BACKED ISLAMIC EXTREMIST VIOLENT ARMED TERRORIST WHO LAUNCHED A PRE DAWN VIOLENT ARMED ATTACK AND DESTROYED THE KG JAWA MARIAMAN HINDU TEMPLE AT 4.00 A.M THIS MORNING (15.11.2007) .
ISLAMIC EXTREMIST VIOLENT ARMED TERRORIST?
It was the local council who demolished the temple despite 3 eviction notices dating to 2 years earlier. The statue of the deities were relocated and only the temple structure was demolished.
2. APPEAL FOR U.K TO MOVE EMERGENCY U.N RESOLUTION CONDEMNING “ETHNIC CLEANSING” IN MALAYSIA.
No proof whatsoever of any incidence of “ETHNIC CLEANSING”.
3. APPEAL TO REFER MALAYSIA TO THE WORLD COURT AND INTERNATIONAL CRIMINAL COURT FOR CRIMES AGAINST IT’S OWN ETHNIC MINORITY INDIANS.
We refer to the above critical matters in Malaysia but which generally gets the least attention locally even by the Opposition parties, NGO’s, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission and the media for this community is generally regarded as politically insignificant, do not draw local or international funding and are deemed not pressworthy. To the contrary the Malaysian government has successfully projected itself to the world as a modern Islamic thinking country which is not true.
The ethnic minority Indians in Malaysia were brought in to Malaysia by the British some 200 over years ago. Since independence in 1957 the Malaysian Indians have been permanently colonialised by the Islamic fundamentalist and Malay chauvinists UMNO led Malaysian government.
Among the recent atrocities committed by this government are as follows:-
1.100 over Indians were slashed and killed by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government in the Kampung Medan mini genocide. Despite numerous appeals, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission has refused to hold a Public Inquiry. The UMNO controlled Malaysian courts struck off a victim’s public interest civil suit for a Public Inquiry to be held without even the said UMNO controlled government having to file in their defence. The UMNO controlled Attorney General and the Inspector General of Police refused to investigate and / or initiate an inquest into the death of at least six Indians in this tragedy despite.
First they say 100 people were slashed and killed, then in the last sentence, it's at least 6 people. Which one is correct? It has been reported independently that 6 people were killed by people within the same vicinity, not by UMNO controlled Malaysian government or any islamic terrorist.
2. Every week one person at average is killed in a shot to kill policy and in every 2 weeks one person is killed in police custody. About 60% of these victims are Indians though they form only 8% of the Malaysian population.
Again as in other figures quoted by HINDRAF, these are plucked from the sky. I think the ratio of Indians killing another Indian is higher. Wonder if there's such Shot to Kill policy in place. Note the grammatical error 'shot'.
3. In every three weeks one Hindu temple is demolished in Malaysia.
The latest being the demolishment of the Mariaman temple in Padang Jawa, Shah Alam, Selangor early this morning (15.11.2007) and the next being the (Mutaiya) Hindu temple in Sungai Petani scheduled for the 29.11.2007.
A violent armed pre down attack at 4.00a.m this morning was launched by the UMNO controlled Malaysian government backed by about 600 police, riot police, Islamic extremist and armed terrorists which completely destroyed this temple.
In an attack two weeks ago, uniformed police, riot police and city Council officers hurled rocks and attacked unarmed Hindu devotees with knives, sticks and iron rods.
At least 20 Hindu devotees were seriously injured and 19 arrested including 4 of their United Kingdom trained lawyers in direct violation of Article 5 (Right to life) Article 8 (Equality) Article 11 (Freedom of Religion) Section 295 (defiling a place of worship), Section 296 (disturbing a religious assembly), 298A(causing racial disharmony) and Section 441(criminal trespass) of the Malaysian Penal Code.
These authorities are plagued by an above the law mindset and in fact liberally take the law into their own hands. These atrocities however does not happen to almost all Islamic places of worship. Please visit http://www.policewatchmala/ ysia.com for further and better particulars.
3 Eviction notices were given before the Padang jawa temple were demolished. The developer also provided 10,000sqft of land for free nearby and cash for the relocation. These were never mentioned as HINDRAF adviser appears to have selective memory whenever they write a memorandum.
Another Surau within the same vicinity was relocated without a fuss. Police acted against a violent crowd who gathered at the temple. It was the crowd who hurled rocks at the police and the Police did not have 'knives, sticks or iron rods' as claimed. This is complete fabriciation of events. Did not know that 'Islamic extremist' and 'armed terrorists' exist were there as well.
4. State sponsored direct discrimination against the Indians in Public University intakes, Indian (Tamil) Schools, skills training institutes, civil service and private sector job opportunities, business and license opportunities and in almost all other aspects of daily life.
This is again a complete nonsence, while opportunities for university intake maybe limited, there are ample of opportunities in all other sector. They even has the cheek to say the same happens in the private sector!. Britain based HSBC employs more Indians than Malays or Chinese. Gordon Brown would have certainly checked on those facts.
Despite our hundreds of letters, appeals and pleas to the Malaysian King and Sultans, the Prime Minister, Attorney General, Inspector General of Police, Ministers, Chief Ministers and the latest being our letters to the Prime Minister dated 29.10.2007 and 30.10.2007 and to the Attorney General dated 1.11.2007 the Malaysian authorities are only proceeding with greater ferocity and with impunity with very little regard for the Federal Constitution and laws of Malaysia. So please help us.
CONCLUSION
We fear that this peace loving Indian community of Tamil origin having been pushed to the corner and the persecution getting worse by the day may be forced to into terrorism in a matter of time as what has happened to the Sri Lankan Tamils.
If you notice, now they speak on behalf of Tamils not Hindus per se. This is where HINDRAF has instituted scare tactics to seek attention. They were reported to have made contact witht eh Tamil Tiger, a reason given by the government to jail 5 HINDRAF leader under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
APPEAL
On our part we are committed to a peaceful and lawful struggle and pray and appeal that the Government of the United Kingdom:-
1. Moves an emergency United Nations resolution condemning these state sponsored atrocities and persecutions of Malaysian Indians in Malaysia.
2. Refers Malaysia to the World Court and the International Criminal Court for Crimes against it’s own ethnic minority Indians
Thank You,
Yours Faithfully
P.Uthayakumar
Legal Adviser
In Summary, the memorandum was filled with half truths and blatant lies. To HINDRAF's dismay, they would have found out by now that Gordon Brown is not as 'intelligent' as HINDRAF's founding lawyers who wrote the memorandum.
Gordon Brown would have his own British High Commission in Malaysia verify the facts before acting or doing anything that may affect bilateral ties. It's no wonder that British Government did not respond.
The fact is the government never took unilateral action. All these places of worship were given eviction notices with adequate time given to the temple authorities to relocate. In many cases compensation were paid to them to relocate by either state government or land owner. Not surprised that these facts are not mentioned at all.
Personally, I just can't believe a group of lawyers can write such a poor quality memorandum full of untruths and flaws with unsubstantiated facts and figures. This is an embarrassment to the Ethnic Indians in Malaysia.
I can't but feel for all the clients of these lawyers, they should have realised by now the quality of lawyers that they have hired to argue their case. Not sure how many have failed in the courts due to the 'quality' of arguements by these lawyers.
HINDRAF should have at least hired a good spin doctor(s) to write the memorandum as their own lawyer's spin only invites ridicule from the readers.

HINDRAF
18 Point demands of Hindraf
1. Realizing the five leaders from the ISA because they were arrested for Malaysian Malay political purpose.
Not sure if they are arrested for Malaysian MALAY political purpose. But I would jail them for public nuisance, especially after being caught in the traffic jam for hours. They could have done it at some open area, stadium or padang and not the streets. Imagine the losses by bussineses, lost of manhours, petrol, people rushing to clinics/hospital on life or death situation, and many other difficulties faced by the public.
2. Realizing or acquittal the Hindraf people charged by AG /PM Charges against for political purpose
What is PM’s role here. Again, I would jail them for public nuisance.
3. 18 POINT DEMANDS OF THE MALAYSIAN INDIANS TO
They can even get their ethnicity right, it should be Indian Malaysians.
1. Whereas:The Reid Commission was appointed by her Majesty the Queen of England and the Conference of Rulers in 1956 with the view to Malaya (and now Malaysia) achieving independence by August 1957.Among the primary terms of reference of the Reid Commission were a Common Nationality for the whole of the Federation.
2. And whereasThe overwhelming of the 131 written memoranda submitted to the Reid Commission as evidenced by the declassified documents from the Public Records Office, Kew, London, United Kingdom which represented the will and wishes of the then Malayan population were primarily equality and equal opportunities etc for all Malayans irrespective ofrace or religion as follows: -
2.1 In the grant of state land,
No evidence whatsoever provided that Indian Malaysians are denied any state lands. I know many have obtained own land despite maybe through the right connections.
Some have been granted state land for farming. I’m sure many who own properties on their own land apart from being leased by the state authorities. It’s the matter of applying, then appealing through the right channels.
2.2 Admission to public and administrative service,
Agree that there maybe discriminations here and there, so does non-malay companies and institutions. They (Chinese and Indian based companies), though not all, practise the same. Have you ever seen a malay employed in an Indian Malaysian company. The ones you see are indonesians. Only MNCs are usually not biased and does not discriminate.
2.3 To trade and do business, licences, permits etc
Many Indian Malaysian businessmen are as succesfull as their counterparts, many are provided with government assistance . Maybe those who are not handed contracts without even trying all the avenues are complaining.
2.4 Primary, secondary, skills Training, university and overseas university education.
All these are available. If not Tamil schools, there are always National schools everywhere. The same applies to tertiary education, although places in public institutions are limited, there are always private institutions and plenty of funding and loans eg PTPTN made available to all races.
2.5 No special privileges for the Malays,2.6 No discrimination of any ethnic community based on race or religion,2.7 The retention of all their places of worship in particular Hindu temples, crematoriums and burial sites,
This is always a contentious issue. Indian Malaysians built temples everywhere without asking permission or applying for permits. Are they correct to take away government or other landowners rights in the first place. There were numerous ocassions where both MIC and Hindu Sangam requested temples to register the temples with them. Many failed to do so and when they are asked to vacate or relocate, they cry ‘Makkal Shakti’ and put in every effort to stop it. Why can’t HINDRAF put the same amount of effort to legalise all the temples rather than cry wolf when someone wants their land back.
2.8 Freedom of Religion
I did not realise that there no freedom of religion in Malaysia especially amongst Indian Malaysians. This is the freest country for Hindus apart from India, they can even built temples in their homes, slaughter goats for 4D numbers, pray to various living people (Cult), invite all and sundry priest and Mahagurus from India and elsewhere. They are also free shout on top of their lungs publicly during festivals, free to create traffic jam during thaipusam and individual annual temple festivals nationwide. They are even free to drink and have fun during these festivals.
2.9 Malaya is to be a Secular State and not an Islamic state
Why care if the above freedom of religion is provided in abundance
2.10 Right to mother tongue education in particular Tamil schools to be fully aided,
Quite agree with this request. But then again, who asked Indian Malaysians to built Tamil Schools on private land without thinking about future problems. Why blame the government when all these are started by Indian Malaysians themselves? Do other races, especially chinese have this problem?
2.11 Minimum wage for the lowest paid, and
Agree and Disagree. I have lived in many estates before. One can earn decent wages if they are hardworking, with or without minimum wage. I have seen in many instances where they waste time and money on booze, gambling, videos, 4d numbers Eg, they skip they daily wage and are more interested to gamble during funerals rather than pay their respects and get back to work.
2.12 Equal recognition as sons of soil for all Malayan born.3. And whereasBased on the aforesaid proposals the Malaysian Federal Constitution, which is the supreme law of Malaysia as drawn out by the Reid Commission in 1957 was passed by the inaugural Malayan Parliament and which formed the basis of independent Malaysia.4. And whereasOver the last 50 years since independence on the 31st day of August 1957, the United Malays Organisation (UMNO) controlled Malaysian government with their majoritarian might, and backed by police, Attorney General’s Chambers, Judiciary, civil service and the media continuously violated the Malaysian Federal Constitution by their racist and Islamic extremist policies and which in effect have created an apartheid system ala Malaysia and especially resulting in the degeneration of at least 70% of the ethnic minority Indians to become the underclass of Malaysia who end up in the poor and hardcore poor category. The rest of the 29% raised above the poor and hardcore poor category wholly and/or substantially through their own efforts, sacrifices and labour with no or very little assistance by the UMNOcontrolled government. The 1% of the cream thrives anyway.
Aparthied System, ghosh, really. Nothing wrong with Indian Malaysians and all the blame on UMNO and Government. Not sure about the figures though. A lorry driver relative of mine (with standard 6 education) and his friends earns more than the national average wage, drives a car and have their own house. They are forward looking families who gives emphasis to education for their children. Most Indian Malaysian have good living standards compared to say 10 years ago. Agreed that maybe it was because of their own efforts, but then it would not have been possible if there are Aparthied like policies, there are always opportunities, it’s up to us to grab it and make things work to our advantage.
5. And whereasThe plight of the Indians have been made worse by the racist UMNO mindset having spilled over to even almost all of the Opposition parties, NGOs’, Civil society, Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam), Bar Council, the media etc who do not take up the Indian plight for they are deemed to be lacking “political mileage” (race based) and/or no funding.
Not quite sure what is their contention here. Though that they blindly supported opposition in the recent elections.
6. And whereasThe Indians having no or very little opportunities for upward mobility or hope either turn to crime (60% of Malaysian detainees are Indians though they are only 8% of population-Suhakam 2005) or end up committing suicide which is 1000% higher than Malays (Utusan Malaysia 12.9.2005).
Again, opportunities are there. As long as Indian Malaysians do not prioritise education for their children, nothing will change. Suicide is more of a cultural issue. I may be wrong but never heard of Indians committing suicide due to lack of jobs or due to hunger!.
7. And Whereas at a public forum attended by 1,000 over Indians on 28.7.2007 at 7.00p.m at the Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall, the participants unanimously resolved to forward their 18 point demands and which this peaceful assembly gathered here today on the 12th day of August 2007 at Putrajaya once again unanimously resolves to demand as hereinbelow outlined. And now it is hereby demanded for and on behalf of the two (2) Million ethnic minority Indians in Malaysia from the UMNO controlled Malaysian Government their 18 point demands as follows: -Hey, I thought there are officially 1.8 Million Indian Malaysians and by the way who appointed them to speak on behalf of the whole Indian Malaysians population?. (1) End 50 years of violations of the Malaysian Federal Constitution.(2) End Racism, end Islamic extremism and end Malay privileges on the 50th year golden jubilee mega Independence celebrations of Malaysia on 31st August 2007.(3) Call for affirmative action plans for all poor Malaysians especially the ethnic minority Indians. A Protection of EthnicMinority Malaysian Indian Act 2007 be passed to secure and safeguard the interests of the poor and defenceless ethnic Indian Minority Community. They want Malay Privileges to be ended, but still have the cheek to ask for affirmative action for Indian Malaysians and special act for a particular race. Mana boleh kawan!(4) All 523 Tamil Schools in Malaysia be made fully aided government schools with immediate effect and to have equal and same facilities as granted to national schools especially in terms of financial allocations, sufficient graduate teaching staff, financial allocation for extra tuition, ample computers, Information Technology facilities, school fields, sports, recreational facilities, air conditioned library, textbook loans, kindergarden, school uniforms and pocket money for poor pupils, nutritional food programmes, teaching aids, school building, infrastructure, film screening room and facilities, financial assistance for poor students, rehabilitation classes, non Muslim religious classes, etc. A RM 100 Billion grant @ 20 Billion per year with effect from 2007 be allocated to Indians under the 9th Malaysia Plan (5 years) for refurbishing the existing 523 Tamil schools and rebuilding of the 300 Tamil schools demolished over the last 50 years.
The figures appears to have been plucked from the sky. The government total budget for education is about 20 Billion per year. What do they want to do with 20 Billion, built castles? If HINDRAF comes up with a proper studies and blueprint with proper plan, I am sure the government would consider.
(5) Extend and implement with immediate effect to Indians the affirmative action plans, grants, scholarships, loans etc as extended to Malay Muslim citizens with the view to providing equal opportunities for higher education, university education, admission to foreign universities, post graduate studies locally and overseas, Trade and Skills Training Institutions, Science Colleges especially for each and every Indian student from the 70% poor and hardcore poor Indian category.
These are all available, Indian Malaysians only need to go through the right channels rather than complaining although I quite agree that allocation for scholarship must be reviewed.
(6) Extend and implement with immediate effect affirmative action plans as extended to Malay Muslim citizens with the view to provide equal opportunities in acquiring wealth, venturing into business, trade, industries, medium and small scale industries, government linked companies, corporate sector, procurement of direct government contracts, in acquiring licenses for contractors, blue chip and / or guaranteed return shares, lorry, taxi and bus permits, loans and licenses to venture into trade, business banking and the corporate sector for each and every Indian from especially the 70% poor andhardcore poor Indian category. To this effect the UMNO controlled government allocates RM100 Billion at RM20 Billion per annum with effect from 2007 and implements successful strategic schemes in investments for the Indians as implemented for the Malay Muslims with the view to the Indians acquiring at least 10% of the nation’s equity.
Again, figures seems ridiculous. Who on earth would provide guaranteed return shares. They too want direct government contract, now who is talking about equality?
(7) All the aforesaid is to be handled directly by the UMNO controlled government and UMNO is to stop “playing politics” through the “Mandore” (supervisor) system by dishing out on a piecemeal and/or peanuts basis or merely public and/or newspaper announcements and declarations by the Malaysian Indian Congress ( M.I.C) who have no or very little power or say in the UMNO controlled Malaysian government.
This is just an emotional outburst, nothing else!
(8) 20% of the Government top most level postings (Secretaries Generals), Middle level Management (Directors) and management level (Managers) postings, and the same for the Private Sectors, and positions of District Officers; Foreign and Diplomatic Service positions, civil service positions are reserved for Indians for the next 15 years.
Now, they want quotas, thought that they wanted equal opportunity!
(9) The UMNO controlled government makes public and is transparent on all of the aforesaid affirmative action plans i.e. the aforesaid education places, licenses, scholarships, grants, loans, permits, licenses, opportunities etc by publishing the same in the official website of the Government of Malaysia as and when the same is granted and/or on a monthly basis specifying the Indian beneficiaries thereto.
(10) Stop the indiscriminate unconstitutional and unlawful demolitions of Hindu temples, crematoriums and burial sites inMalaysia. All existing Hindu temples, crematoriums and burial sites be granted state land and permanently gazetted as Hindu temple reserves as has been done for all Islamic places of worship and burial sites. Compensation at RM10 Million per temple be paid by the UMNO controlled Malaysian Government for the 15,000 Hindu temples demolished up to date over the last 50 years.
Agreed that government assist temples but it is ridiculous to demand compensation when all those demolished are illegal temples. Now my turn, I would like to demand HINDRAF to do a proper study and decide how many temples are required in each parlimentary constituency and then ask for government aid. Many temples are built to boost egos of certain Indian Malaysians and are hardly frequented except for certain days. In many town, there are far too many temples built unnecessarily with Indian Malaysians funds. The money donated mainly by Indian Malaysians could have been well spent on education of their children.
Every individual given the Right to practice and profess Religion/s of his/her choice in accordance to Standards adopted by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948. The State and its Authorities barred from interfering in the personal beliefs and conscience of individual citizens . Disputes between Muslims & Non Muslims should be adjudicated in the Civil Courts.
Agreed but Indian Malaysians have to be responsible too when they convert. The root cause is Indian Malaysians themselves. Most of the recent cases are their (Indian Malaysians) own doing. They were never been forced to convert.
(11) Stop the victimization and direct discrimination by the Police and all other state authorities of the Indians. All Malaysians earning RM 3,000.00 and below are to be fully borne by state funded legal aid for any criminal charges they face.
There maybe cases where victimisation happened but why should taxpayers money used for criminals.
(12) The UMNO controlled government forms with immediate effect a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Kg Medan Mini Genocide, condemns the violence thereto, apologises to the Indian community on this mini genocide, undertakes not to repeat the same in future and pay a compensation of RM1,000, 000.00 for each and every citizen killed, permanently maimed, maimed or injured in this tragedy.
Agree with the need for government to come clean on this issue. Maybe compensation, what about those killed by Indian Malaysians.
(13) Each and every Indian especially the Indian poor in the aforesaid 70% Indian poor and hardcore poor category is paid compensation which is to be adjudicated and determined by the United Nations Secretary General for the aforesaid 50 years of Constitutional violations by the UMNO controlled government.
It never says how the compensation are to be determined. Why UN?
(14) All homeless Malaysians are to be provided affordable homes and not low cost flats by law. A minimum wage of RM1,000.00 for each and every Malaysian be made law.
Agreed. But there are people who refuse to move even when provided with below RM 100 rental flats! The same group of people can afford to spend on ASTRO, VCDs, booze, unnecessary celebrations etc.
(15) A Royal Commission of Inquiry is initiated to report on the aforesaid constitutional violations by the UMNO controlled government and appropriate recommendations for amongst others further affirmative action plans for especially the 70% Indian poor and hardcore poor category. (16) All forms of racial and religious discrimination, oppression and suppression of the Indians / Hindus in both the public and private sectors are stopped with immediate effect and a Race Relations Commission Act 2007, an Equal Opportunities Commission Act 2007 and a Freedom of Religion Commissions Act 2007 be passed and powerful Commission thereto be put into force to give effect to anti racism, anti Islamic extremism and anti direct discrimination practices by the UMNO controlled government in both the public and private sectors.Never seen those proposed Acts, so cant really comment.(17) The UMNO controlled government passes specific laws to give effect to the Independence of the Judiciary, the Attorney General’s Chambers, Civil service, Police Force, Army, the Malaysian Human Rights Commission and the Malaysian media and for the Opposition parties, NGOs’ Civil Society groups, Bar Council and the media not todiscriminate and side step Indian issues but instead to voice out the same without fear or favour. The Malaysian media is also to be legislated to report the real happenings especially on the 70% Indian poor and hardcore poor without fear or favour.
Most are in the works, now they want Media Controls, to report in their favour.
(18) A minimum of 20 Opposition members of Parliament are elected exclusively by the Indian Community to represent their interest at the highest political level and also as a Parliamentary Democracy check and balance and the same is safeguarded and entrenched into the Federal Constitution and which is to be increased proportionately with the increase in Parliamentary seats.
Yet another request for quota!
In summary, this is a poorly drafted memorandum, full of holes, vague, racist to the core aimed at UMNO, opportunistic and with multiple figures plucked from the sky. It only goes to show how people may be well read but not wisely educated. At least this memorandum is a bit toned down as compared to the ones purportedly addressed to Queen Elizabeth.
Being an Indian Malaysian, I’m quite embarassed with the qulity of this memorandum. I think I have all the rights to talk about HINDRAF since they claim to represent me.
Claims against the British Government
First and foremost, it was our grandparents decision to move to Malaysia for a better life would be the rootcause that brought about this situation, hundred years later. Nobody would want to imagine how Indian Malaysians would have fared if their forefathers chose to remain in India.
Their demand that the British government compensate each Indian Malaysians 2 Million ringgit is ridiculous if not stupid. I shook my head in disbelieve, asking myself how could a group of lawyers write such an outrageous memorandum which includes words such as ‘ethnic Cleansing’ when the same group of lawyers are living comfortably in this country.
I would agree that some of their demands are ought to be considered but they ( Licenses, University seat allocation etc) are something that has been brought up by other parties long time ago.
Indian Malaysian Representation in Government & Society
Indian Malaysian are broadly represented in various political parties, cabinet, government agencies, trade unions, the cabinet, private sectors and independent institutions such a NGOs. To say that Indian Malaysians are without voice is certainly not true. In fact prominent NGOs and trade unions are usually headed by Indian Malaysians.
There are far too many Indian based organisation, political parties, NGOs and not forgetting race and caste based societies. This is perhaps why everyone lost their focus and government listened to only MIC.
MIC is partly to blame because after decades in power, they became complacent, corrupt and clueless about the situation on the ground. But then again Indian Malaysians are not even united in the first place..
Indian Malaysians are reasonably represented in the Parliament and State Assemblies, local councils and city halls, therefore it would not be accurate to say Indian Malaysians have no say at all.
I wonder why HINDRAF did not request government to abolished all caste based Indian societies, when they are requesting malay rights to be abolished.
HINDRAF was born of out of frustration of certain groups with the government and particularly MIC. The same group of lawyers actually made their money out of people’s misery, usually suing the government and institutions for negligence, death in lock-up etc.
HINDRAF(Hindu Rights Action Force) may sound like a Hindu Extremist outfit, claims to represent all Indian Malaysians, when they actually focus on the plight of ethnic Tamilians. Their propaganda materials, functions and speeches are all in Tamil. The other ethnic Indian Malaysians such as Telugus, Malayalees, Ceylonees and Punjabis are ignored.
They should be renamed as Tamil Rights Action Force (TAMRAF)
The Indian Malaysian Dilemma The root cause of most of the issues highlighted by HINDRAF are Indian Malaysians own doing, not UMNO or the government.
Hindu Temples & Tamil Schools
Bulk of HINDRAF’s complains are towards the treatment of Hindu Temples and Tamil Schools. The temple issues are often played up to raise emotions. The actual fact is there are more than enough temples for Indian Malaysians. Indian Malaysians built temples eveywhere they liked, according to their whims and fancies, and then blame government when someone claims the land.
For example, there are a dozen temples in Jalan Ipoh/Sentul area when probably two would be have been sufficient. Indian Malaysians built illegally, spend millions of ringgit but do not think! Some are even built side by side while others are built for the needs of certain caste.
Why aren’t there similar issues with Chinese temples or churches? Because they are built according to needs of the population of the particular area unlike Indian temples, where it is usually built without thinking about current and future needs. Chinese temples are usually built by Associations held by group of trustees and they ensure that the own the land before they built anything on it,good example of right thinking.
So, who is at fault here? The same applies to Tamil Schools. If everything would have been done correctly and legally from the beginning, none of these would have surfaced. This is also where MIC failed.
HINDRAF also never fought for the rights of mother tongue education for Indian Malaysians of Telugu, Malayalee, Punjabi or Ceylonese descent while claiming to represent all Indian Malaysians. Yet the had the cheek to demonise UMNO and Malays.
Jobs, Business & Tertiary Education Opportunities
HINDRAF’s insinuations that Indian Malaysians are denied all the opportunitites are grossly inaccurate. There are many thriving businesses owned by Indian Malaysians although the numbers may be small in comparison to Chinese Malaysians and Malay.
There are known difficulties in getting permits and licenses that the governement could consider to be improved. . The other problem is that Indian Malaysians are engrossed in doing what they know best, I,e traditional Indian related Businesses such as Indian Groceries, Clothings, Scrap Metal, Money Changing, Jewellery etc and not venturing into businesses which are the dominated by other races. This is where they probably need support or guidance.
In terms job opportunity, Indian Malaysians are doing extremely well in professional fields. Many of them are prominent lawyers, doctors and engineers. They are widely employed in the private sector and generally does well in MNCs. Not sure why HINDRAF is bent on getting Indian Malaysian get employed more in Government Sector.
HINDRAF also never spoke about getting assistance on making Indian Malaysian more employable.
Educational & Economic Upliftment
A lorry driver relative of mine (with standard 6 education) and his friends earns more than the national average wage, drives a car and have their own house. They are forward looking families who gives emphasis to education for their children. Most Indian Malaysian have good living standards compared to say 10 years ago. Agreed that maybe it was because of their own efforts, but then it would not have been possible if there are Aparthied like policies, there are always opportunities, it’s up to us to grab it and make things work to our advantage.
HINDRAF have given little attention to the need to focus on holistic education of their own (continous learning) or for their children as only education can provide upliftment of the whole society and not Tamil Schools or temples.
Eg, You hardly see any reading materials in their homes but latest tamil movie VCDs are there all the time.
HINDRAF Followers/ Sympathisers
HINDRAF followers are mainly people frustrated with government when things are not favourable to them although many of their own follower are quite well to do. They are not grateful for what they have and want more and want it easy.
Having some close relatives and friends who are staunch HINDRAF supporters, I can easily describe the charactristics of a HINDRAF followers.
Some actually seek connections or in local language 'lobang' or any form of short cuts to achieve wealth, to get contracts, they dont mind bribing policeman to get out of trouble or favour, spend tones of money of booze, women, focus little onself and children education, able to spend excessively on private functions, jewerlley and 4D numbers.
The same followers can be found in Chinese Coffee shops with 20 bottles of beer downed, Expensive pubs (with few bottles of whiskeys finished, while embracing some foreign women) , Chow Kits & Red Light Area in Brickfields and some as far as phuket. They have no qualms to do all the above, but claims that they are being suppressed, victimised and marginalised.
They are the same people who talks nonsense half the time, loves negativity and some are racist to the core. They are also prone to listening to what others say i.e huge cow herd mentality rather than verify what they hear.
In short they are all hypocrites, I am in no way saying that I don’t do any of the above, I would feel guilty if I went to the streets claiming victimisation or suppression and later walk into 4D Number Shop and bet against the number 2511 for hundreds of ringgit.
Conclusion
While I agree that there are still poverty amongst Indian Malaysians, the same can be said with the Malays and even Chinese. Malaysians must be gratefull that not a single race are rich or satisfied, if there’s such a situation, it spells trouble for the whole country.
My arguments may sound flimsy, but the point is that there’s nothing to gain from pointing fingers at everybody else except ourselves. HINDRAF’s demands are grossly one-sided ignoring completely weaknesses within Indian Malaysian community.
Hindraf’s demands are not likely to help the community in the long term as they are only asking for fish and not a fishing rod or if one looks at the amount(RM) that HINDRAF demanded, perhaps they are asking for a deep sea fishing boat.
Indian Malaysians are all not angels themselves but they should not simply embarass themselves with nonsensical memorandum that we know (but fail to admit) are full of half-truths.
HINDRAF have successfully played the emotions of Indian Malaysians, triggered their inferiority complex, allowed themselves to be exploited by some political parties and used during the recent elections. While they are proud to shout’Makkal Sakthi’with full emotion, most of their arguments and demands, are with no basis whatsoever and highly unlikely to be fulfilled. HINDRAF leaders know that.
Most of the followers would have never read the both memorandum in it’s true form. Most of the demands look appealing when read in Tamil, while some are included to point out that they are at the losing end compared to Malays. Some remarks and statements don't really look atrocious or ridiculous when translated. Eg they would have realised that there would not have been any Indian Malaysians still alive if ‘ethnic cleansing’ was practised for 5 decades by the UMNO, let alone demonstrate with holding Mahatma Gandhi’s potrait on one hand while sipping Tiger beer on the other, along Jalan Ampang.
